Regimental hockey team of the 1st Brahmans, 1910 (c)

Sport was always important in the Indian Army. Hockey in particular was, and is, very popular in the Indian subcontinent. In 1905 the 1st Brahmans were the first Indian infantry regiment to win the All-India Hockey Tournament and in 1909 they beat the 41st Dogras in the final of the Eastern Command Hockey Tournament.

From an album of 26 photographs associated with the 1st Brahmans, later the 4th/1st Punjab Regiment, 1904-1931.
