Reid (later Shergold) had formerly served with the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), having joined it in 1940. The certificate is inscribed: 'A Reid Bevis partecipante alla XIV Olimpiade (Londra 1948) gli Sportivi Romani con ammirazione ed affeto Roma, agosto 1948'.
