Section tent pegging team, 1909

Photograph, India, 1909.

Tent pegging can take a variety of forms, but usually involves a galloping horse and rider using a sword or lance to strike and pick up a target from the ground. This method of cavalry training has developed over the centuries into an established military sport.

From an album of 40 photographs compiled by Capt F St Barton, Hampshire Coy, 2nd Bn Mounted Infantry and presented by him to the officers' mess of 2nd Bn Hampshire Regiment, 1909.
