Saddle presented to the George William Frederick Charles, 2nd Duke of Cambridge by the Turkish Sultan, 1856 (c)
This beautifully made eastern saddle was presented to HRH General George William Frederick Charles, 2nd Duke of Cambridge by Abdul Mejid, Sultan of Turkey, following the Crimean War (1854-1856) to express his appreciation of the Duke's services.
The seat is of padded and quilted yellow silk and is covered in maroon velvet. The leg flaps either side are padded at the front and quilted at the back. The Sultan presented the saddle along with a pair of saddle holsters and a pair of stirrups.
