Calcutta Light Horse crossing a river, Madhupur Camp, October 1925

Photograph, India, 1925.

The training camp at Madhupur, some 260 km north west of Calcutta, was held during 15-20 October 1925, and was attended by four officers, the Medical Officer, the Veterinary Officer, the Honorary Chaplain and 77 other ranks of the regiment. On the last day at the camp the regiment was involved in a short exercise. Two troops represented the rearguard of a Northern force retreating in good order across the River Pathro and then northwards. Two more troops acted as the advance guard of a Southern force in pursuit. The Northern force was caught on the south side of the river and forced to cross the ford and occupy the village of Mahanpur.

From an album of 57 photographs compiled by P Bose, photographer, for Colonel Sir Charles Arthur MC VD, Commanding Calcutta Light Horse, 1922-1925.
