Africa General Service Medal 1902-56, with clasp, 'Kenya', awarded to Sergeant D G Holliday, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers

Circular, silver campaign medal with, on the obverse, a portrait of Queen Elizabeth III facing right, with the Latin inscription, 'Elizabeth. II. Dei. Gratia. Regina. F:D:' (Elizabeth II By the Grace of God Queen). On the reverse, designed by George de Saulles, a figure of Britannia, a lion at her feet, holds a palm branch and scroll, symbols of peace and law, in one hand and a trident in the other, with the inscription, 'Africa', in the exergue below. The medal ribbon is yellow with two narrow green stripes towards the centre, and edged in black, with a single silver clasp inscribed, 'Kenya'.

Holliday served as a National Serviceman in Kenya in 1956. After completing National Service he re-enlisted in The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and was wounded in action in Aden on 18 December 1966. Later he served with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, in Northern Ireland and retired from the Army in 1974.
