Officer's shoulder belt plate, West Kent Light Infantry Militia, 1810 (c)

The West Kent Light Infantry was a militia regiment first raised in 1758. Like all light infantry troops, their badge displays the bugle horn. This instrument, much lighter than the cumbersome drum used by regular infantry units, was used to convey orders in the field.
