Combat jacket, desert Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM), worn by Major C R G Watt, The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own), 1990-1991
Brown and fawn cotton, manufactured by Cookson and Clegg Limited, 1990 (c).
This jacket was worn by Robin Watt during the Gulf War 1990-91. Watt was a soldier and artist attached to the headquarters of 7th Armoured Brigade in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Although desert pattern uniform existed in 1990, supplies had to be rapidly manufactured to meet the demand for the large numbers of British forces deployed for the war, officially known as Operation GRANBY.
