Embroidered textile, probably a tea cosy, commemorating the British Red Cross Society and Australian forces, 1918 (c)
This textile was possibly made as part of a soldier's hospital therapy during World War One (1914-1918).
On one side, a white heater shield bearing a red cross within a blue circlet with the inscription, 'The British Red Cross Society'; a red scroll below bears the original motto of the International Red Cross, 'Inter Arma Caritas', 'In war, charity'. On the reverse, a crown above a scroll, bearing the title, 'Australian Commonwealth Military Forces'.
