Charles Elphinstone Fordyce was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders in August 1916, being promoted to lieutenant in February 1918 and captain in November 1927. He served as adjutant in 1928 and went onto the Reserve list in 1931. Fordyce received service medals for World War One (1914-1918).
