Pair of combat boots worn by Chief Technician Greg Baker, Royal Air Force, 2011

Baker worked as a Bomb Disposal Operator in Afghanistan. The hole in the toe of his left boot was caused by a sniper bullet fired by an insurgent. The round ricocheted off a tree past Greg's face and into his boot, where it passed through the insole and came to rest against the heel of his sock.
