Officer's coatee, pattern 1784, 1787 (c)

This coatee was worn by Cornet (later General Sir) William Henry Clinton, of the 7th (or The Queen's Own) Regiment of Light Dragoons, who served with the regiment between 1784 and 1790. The 7th was commanded by his father and had been raised in 1759 and converted to light dragoons in 1783. The following year the colour of the coat was changed from scarlet to blue.
