Last note written by Captain Joseph Fenwick, 3rd (The East Kent) Regiment of Foot (The Buffs), in his own blood, December 1810

Fenwick was wounded at Chamusca during the Peninsular War (1808-1814) in November 1810 and died on 10 December. The note was written to his commanding officer, Colonel Richard Blunt and reads:

'I am shot thro the body and arms for God's sake send me a Surgeon English if possible - if I do not recover God bless you all. J.F.'.

The letter, which is mounted on card and framed, was given to the officers of 1st Battalion 3rd (The East Kent) Regiment of Foot (The Buffs) by Lieutenant-Colonel G E E Blunt, grandson of General Richard Blunt.
