'The Kitchener Shakespeare', 'The Works of William Shakespeare', 1916

Presented to Sergeant Frederick Bowman, Border Regiment.

The patriotic organisation, the League of the Empire, presented special copies of William Shakespeare's complete works as gifts to soldiers wounded or disabled during World War One (1914-1918). The book was offered in memory of Field Marshal Earl Kitchener of Khartoum who was drowned at sea in 1916.
