'Horse Sand Fort, Spithead', Hampshire, 1908 (c)

Photographic postcard published by Stephen Cribb, Southsea.

Horse Sand Fort is a fort in the Solent off Plymouth, which was completed in 1880. In the late nineteenth century it was painted in a black and white pattern, an early form of Dazzle camouflage. In 1908, the fort's guns were manned by the Hampshire Royal Garrison Artillery.

From a group of 12 photographs collected by Regimental Sergeant Major Samuel Golding (1874-1948), Royal Artillery, 1908 (c).
