King's Medal for Service in the Cause of Freedom, awarded to Miss Alice Delysia, Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA), 1945 (c)
Circular, silver medal with, on the obverse, the crowned head of King George VI, with the inscription, 'Georgivs VI D: G: BR: Omn: Rex et Indiae Imp', around the edge. On the reverse, a knight holding a broken lance, with a helmet between his feet, is offered a drink by a woman holding a jug or ewer, with the inscription, 'For Service in the Cause of Freedom', around the upper edge of the medal; in the exergue, the title, 'The Kings Medal'. The medal is suspended from a ring and a corded silk, bow shape, red and white and blue ribbon.
Miss Alice Delysia (1889-1979) enlisted with Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) in 1941 and served with British Forces in the Middle East, Normandy 1944, Belgium and Holland.
The Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) was established in 1939 to provide entertainment for military personnel during World War Two (1939-1945). ENSA operated as part of the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI).
