Replica medal commemorating the planned invasion of England in 1804

Designed by Jean Pierre Droz, France, 1816 (c).

This depicts Napoleon as Hercules crushing a mythological 'anguipede' which represents Britain. It was cast to mark his planned invasion. Napoleon assembled hundreds of vessels to transport 150,000 troops across the Channel, but the operation was abandoned after his navy was defeated at Trafalgar (1805).
