'The Patrol Encamped', 1850 (c)

Coloured lithograph, nd. Plate 16 from 'Pen and Pencil Reminiscences of A Campaign in South Africa', a bound volume of 21 coloured lithographs by and after Captain Thomas J Lucas, Cape Mounted Rifles, published by Day and Son, Gate Street, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, 15 July 1861.

A scene from the 8th Cape Frontier War (1850-1853) with a military camp between two ridges. Soldiers collect wood, sleep and sit around camp fires alongside tents and horse lines.
