Carved figure of a sergeant of the King's African Rifles, 1917 (c)

This painted wooden carving, produced in Nyasaland (now Malawi), belonged to Major E A Priestland. It was probably made by a member of the 1st or 2nd (Nyasaland) battalions when they were engaged in the East African Campaign against the German commander Paul Erich von Lettow-Vorbeck during World War One.
