Gold ring presented to Captain T. F. Wilson by Colonel John Inglis at Lucknow, 1859 (c)
During the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) Colonel John Inglis of the 32nd Regiment assumed command of the Lucknow garrison after Sir Henry Lawrence's death on 4 July 1857. An experienced officer, who had fought in the Sikhs Wars, he led the resistance until Sir Henry Havelock's relief force arrived. Inglis was assisted in his endeavours by a staff officer, Captain Wilson of the 13th Bengal Native Infantry. In recognition of his services, Inglis presented him with this handsome gold ring which is set with two diamonds and an emerald.
