Medallion presented to soldiers after the London Olympics, 2012
Soldiers who were deployed during the 2012 London Olympic Games received this commemorative medallion for their part. Ultimately, over 18,000 personnel were drafted to help during the event after security company G4S admitted they could not provide enough guards. It was the largest peacetime operation ever performed by the armed forces, and raised the profile of soldiers among civilians.
The obverse of the medallion reads 'Thank you for helping deliver a safe and secure Games'.
