The Shanghai Volunteer Corps was an international militia organised under the Shanghai Municipal Council to protect foreign interests in the city. British, American, French, German, Russian, Austrian, Portuguese and Japanese all served. Some soldiers were formed into national companies, others into mixed units. The British contingent included 'A' Company, the Shanghai Scottish and part of an Armoured Car Company.
