'Equipment begins to arrive', Saxilby, Lincolnshire, 1940

Photograph compiled by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1940.

The soldiers on the motorcycle combination are named as, Peter 'Pedro' Smethurst, Bill Nottley and Jimmy Sale (in the sidecar).

With the fall of France in June 1940, the 3rd and 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) moved north as Britain braced itself for an attack from occupied Europe. During this period Sale refers to a number of 'flaps' in his captions, presumably security alerts relating to possible invasion or airborne assaults by German forces.

From an album of 328 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1938-1940.
