The grave of Captain Albert Ball VC, DSO, MC, 1917

Lantern slide, World War One, Air Operations (1914-1918), 1917.

Albert Ball (1896-1917) was one of the Royal Flying Corps' greatest fighter aces of the war. Credited with 44 victories and awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross (VC), Ball was killed when his SE5 aircraft crashed after he had been engaging Baron von Richthofen's squadron near Lens on 7 May 1917. The Germans buried him with full military honours at Annoeullin Cemetery.
