The Waterloo Banquet in Apsley House, 1836
Line engraving by William Greatbach after William Salter. Published by F G Moon, 20 Threadneedle Street, London, 1846.
The banquet was held regularly at the Duke of Wellington's London residence of Apsley House on the anniversary of Waterloo, 18 June 1815. The dinner was normally held in the Waterloo Gallery and the Duke invited all the field officers who had served with him at the battle. The gallery displayed Wellington's fine collection of paintings, many of which he acquired following the Battle of Vitoria in 1813 when his men captured Joseph Bonaparte's baggage train.
