Slouch hat, King's Colonial Yeomanry, worn by King George V, 1911 (c)
The slouch hat was a wide-brimmed felt head-piece with a chinstrap. Although it had been worn by several units prior to the Boer War (1899-1902), it was during the South African conflict that it grew in popularity, being adopted by the City Imperial Volunteers, Imperial Yeomanry and other mounted units.
