'On the flats', 1942

Crusader tanks of the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) being transported by railway in Egypt. The Sharpshooters arrived in Egypt in late 1942 and took part in the successful campaign to oust German and Italian forces from North Africa. For the first half of 1943 the regiment remained near Cairo training until July when it embarked for the landings on Sicily as part of 4th Armoured Brigade. The unit moved on to Sicily and mainland Italy, returning to the United Kingdom in time to participate in the Normandy Landings in June 1944.
