Brigadier John Currie and Lieutenant-Colonel A A Cameron DSO, MC, inspecting 'B' Squadron tanks in Sicily, August 1943

Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, Sicily, 1943.

Sherman tanks and their crews undergo inspection. Currie was commander of 4th Armoured Brigade and Cameron had been appointed CO of the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) just before this photograph was taken. His predecessor, Lieutenant-Colonel George Geoffrey Willis DSO, had been killed in action on 17 July 1943. Currie, who had won the Military Cross in World War One, was killed in Normandy in 1944.

The Sherman Mark 3 (M4A2) tank, of 2 Troop, 'B' Squadron, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), nearest to the photographer, bears the name 'Bolton' on its turret.

From a photograph album containing 246 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters).
