'Dick Godson and Derek Bartlby in their Mark VI Vickers Light Tank', Chiddingfold, 1940
Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1940.
The Vickers Light Tank was armed with a 0.303 inch machine gun, although some models were fitted with the 15mm BESA machine gun. The Vickers saw service in France, North Africa, Greece and Crete. Lightly armed and fitted with very thin armour, the tank was useful only in a light reconnaissance role, but even here it was limited by its poor off-road mobility.
From an album of 328 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1938-1940.
