Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, Sicily, 1943.

The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) was Germany's most produced armoured fighting vehicle of the War. It was built on the chassis of the Mark III tank. Originally intended as a mobile armoured light gun for infantry support, the StuG was often employed as a tank destroyer.
