'Taking the Island of Curacoa by Sir Chas. Brisbane and the Officers under his command...January 1st, 1807'

Coloured aquatint by M Dubourg after Capt Lydard, published by E Orme 1809.

Britain captured the Dutch island of Curacao in the Caribbean in 1807. This was the second time the island had been occupied by the British during the wars with France and her allies. In 1800 the British had captured the island and occupied it until it was restored to the Dutch under the terms of the Peace of Amiens in 1802. The 1815 Treaty of Paris settled a lot of disputes in the Caribbean and finally gave Curacao back to the Dutch West India Company.
