The town and harbour of Port Louis, 1810
One of eight aquatints of Mauritius by I Clark after drawings by R Temple, 65th Regiment, published by W Haines.
Mauritius in the Indian Ocean lay on the trade route between India and the Cape of Good Hope. It was captured by British and Indian troops under the command of Major-General John Abercomby in November 1810 to prevent its continued use by French privateers as a base from which to attack ships of the East India Company.
