The Cawnpore Road taken from the direction of the Cawnpore Battery in the Residency, 1858 (c)

This view of Lucknow was taken from the grounds of the British Residency and looks down the road to Cawnpore which was about 48 miles (77 km) away. Beato positioned himself at a spot near the Bailee Guard Gate where two nine-pounders and an 18-pounder gun of the Cawnpore Battery were stationed during the Siege of Lucknow.
