'View of Eden Gardens', Calcutta, 1865

Photograph by Samuel Bourne (1834-1912), India, Bengal, 1865.

Eden Gardens was located in the Maidan (open space) and was named after Emily and Fanny Eden, the sisters of Lord Auckland, Governor-General of India from 1836 to 1842. Today, it is the location of one of the world's largest cricket grounds.
