'Dysentery and Diarrhoea', 1945

Colour lithograph British Army anti-dysentery and diarrhoea medical information poster, after Second Lieutenant Stacey Hopper, published, 1945.

The poster poses questions relating to the dangers of disease caused by unattended rubbish and the resultant pests, and provides helpful hints, with illustrations, on dealing with 'Flies' and 'Filth'. It was aimed, in particular, at British troops on active service in Italy during World War Two (1943-1945). The text reads:

Dysentery and Diarrhoea. What is the Chief Source of these Infections? Food Fouled by Flies. Where do Flies Breed? Filth.

Six vignettes illustrate 'How Can I Prevent These Fly-carried Infections?: 1. Burn All Refuse! 2. Keep Lid Down! 3. Swat 'em! 4. Trap 'em! 5. Cover Food! 6. Keep Swill-Bins Closed!'
