Steel and aluminium mess tin, 1955

A mess tin is a portable container used for heating up food and drink. It is usually placed over a cooking apparatus or fire. During the era of National Service (1948-1963) British soldiers were issued with two rectangular mess tin with long folding handles that could be nested together.
