Turkeys reared for the mess, Salonika, December 1916

Lantern slide, World War One, Salonika (1914-1918), 1916.

British troops round up turkeys for the pot in 'The Birdcage'. This was a fortified line constructed by the Allies in the hills around Salonika where the British and French had first landed in October 1915 to bolster their Serbian ally.
