Colour party from 2nd Royal Battalion (Ludhiana Sikhs), 11th Sikh Regiment, 1936 (c)
Photograph, India, 1936 (c).
Like their British counterparts, Indian Army units had a King's/Queen's Colour and a Regimental Colour. The first was a reminder to all ranks of their loyalty and duty to their sovereign. The Regimental colour symbolised the traditions and honour of their unit. For a regiment to lose either of its colours was a major disgrace.
From an album of 50 photographs, 2nd Royal Battalion (Ludhiana Sikhs), 11th Sikh Regiment, Waziristan, N W Frontier (1920-1937).
