Members of the King's African Rifles at camp in Kenya, 1939 (c)

Prior to World War Two there were six battalions of the King's African Rifles, but during the war this expanded to 43 battalions, nine independent companies, an armoured car regiment, an artillery unit, as well as engineer, signal and transport sections. Members of the regiment served in Kenya, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Burma.
