A soldier of the King's African Rifles at a rest camp in Assam, 1944

Prior to the war there were six battalions of the King's African Rifles, but during the conflict this expanded to 43 battalions, nine independent companies, an armoured car regiment, an artillery unit, as well as engineer, signal and transport sections. Members of the regiment served in Kenya, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Burma.
