A training lecture on the Bren Light Machine Gun, 1956 (c)

Photograph by Lieutenant Roger Perkins, 4th (Uganda) Battalion King's African Rifles, 1956 (c).

Soldiers from the 4th (Uganda) Battalion, The King's African Rifles, undergo training in the use of the Bren machine-gun during an exercise in the bush. Although the Bren is best known for its roll as the Commonwealth's main LMG (Light Machine Gun) during World War Two (1939-1945), it remained in service for many years after. During the 1950s it was used by King's African Rifle units against the Mau Mau rebels in Kenya (1952-1960).
