Shako plate, 4th Swiss Regiment, 1814 (c)
This plate depicts a brass eagle, facing right to left, with wings outstretched, standing on a rectangular block that is inscribed, '4me Rt Se'.
The 4th Swiss Regiment was raised in 1806 for service with Napoleon's army. Prior to its disbandment in 1814 it fought in many campaigns including Heilsberg and Friedland (1807), Lisbon, Alcolea, Obidos, Rolicia and Vimeiro (1808), Chaves, Tuy, and Oporto (1809), Vallavoid (1810), Magas (1811), Zoa, Llanguez, Polotsk, Beresina, Borisow, Cedano, Wilna, and Kowno (1812), Delfzyl (1813) and Bescanon (1814).
