Formation badge of 30 Corps, 1941 (c)

30 Corps (or XXX Corps) was a British Army formation established in the Western Desert in 1941 under the command of Lieutenant-General Vyvyan Pope. It distinguished itself at Tobruk in November 1941 and later at El Alamein in 1942. Its emblem was a rampant wild boar, colloquially known as 'the pig' by its soldiers. The formation later fought in Sicily in 1943 and North West Europe in 1944-1945, landing in Normandy on D-Day and going on to take part in the ill-fated Market Garden operation.
