Laying a horse line in the grounds of Scarisbrack Hall, 1914

Photograph, World War One, 1914.

The Duke of Lancaster's Yeomanry, like the rest of the Territorial Force, were not obliged to serve overseas, but when asked after the outbreak of war, the vast majority of its soldiers agreed to do so. On mobilisation in August 1914, they joined the Welsh Border Mounted Brigade.

From an album of 83 photographs compiled by Trooper James Eckersley, Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry, Britain and Malta, 1914-1919.
