Officer's busby, 1858 (c)

This black sable fur busby was worn by Lieutenant-Colonel (later General) John Wilkie (1817-1882), of the 10th (Prince of Wales's Own) Royal Regiment of Light Dragoons (Hussars). On 17 April 1855 Wilkes' unit arrived in the Crimea, having been sent from from India, to replace the cavalry lost in the Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava.
