Field service forage cap, 4th Duke of Cambridge's Own Hodson's Horse, 1938 (c)

Scarlet Torin type side hat made by Chitur Mull and Sons, Tailoring House, Meerut, India. Hallmarked silver badge of King's Crown set on crossed lances with a scroll below inscribed, 'Hodson's Horse'.

Hodson's Horse was an irregular cavalry unit raised by Brevet Major William Hodson during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). Three regiments were formed from the unit. In 1921, the two surviving regiments, 9th Hodson's Horse and 10th Duke of Cambridge's Own Lancers (Hodson's Horse), were amalgamated and renamed the 4th Duke of Cambridge's Own Hodson's Horse in the following year. Post-independence, the 4th (Hodson's) Horse retained it's founder's name, as part of India's armoured force.
