Gold prize medal for shooting awarded to Edward Simpson, 1st Regiment of Loyal London Volunteers, 1805

Made by Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson, London, 1805.

Militia and Volunteer medals are often very fine. They were privately produced, paid for by wealthy officers and used to encourage local pride and commitment. This prize medal was won in a 100 yard shooting contest.
