Moving through Hamburg, May 1945

Photograph, World War Two, North West Europe (1944-1945), 1945.

The 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) entered Hamburg on the 4th May 1945, after advancing across northern Germany with the British 2nd Army. The Regiment spent Victory in Europe (VE) day in Hamburg, in improvised messes and canteens in the town. Here tanks of the regiment move through one of the roads of the city which had not been affected by the heavy bombing.

From a photograph album containing 198 photographs and captions compiled by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1944-1945.
