Captured German and Italian armoured cars, North Africa, 1942 (c)

Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North Africa, 1943 (c).

The Sd.Kfz.232, in the foreground, was a heavy armoured car used by the Germans throughout the War. These vehicles with their long wave radio antennae mounted a 2 cm cannon and a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun for local defence. The Sd.Kfz.231/232 performed well in the North African desert and was often used to move troops from one battle front to another. The vehicle in the background is an Italian Autoblinda 41 armoured car.

From an album containing 45 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1938-1945.
