'Keep a Guard on What You Say', 1941
Colour lithograph propaganda poster, after Abram Games (1914-1996), issued by the War Office, 1941.
Games designed many British wartime propaganda posters over the course of his military service with the Royal Engineers, including around a hundred posters for the Army. In 1942 he was appointed Official War Poster Artist.
In 1940, the Ministry of Information launched a nationwide campaign warning civilians about the dangers of revealing information about the war effort. In this, the first of Games's posters warning soldiers about these risks, he used a pun to suggest that they should keep a guard on what they discuss in public.
From a collection of 45 posters from World War Two (1939-1945).
